phaenovum's guiding principle is to give interested, talented students an opportunity to let their creativity unfold and get to the bottom of unsolved scientific mysteries using an independent, interdisciplinary approach and without any classroom pressure or a rigid syllabus.

Opportunities for students to conduct fun experiments or for trying out innovative ways of effectively conveying information are few and far between. We decided to do something about this and founded phaenovum - Schülerforschungszentrum Lörrach-Dreiländereck e.V. (the phaenovum Student Research Center of Lörrach and the Tri-border Region) at the end of April 2007.
The center's main emphasis lies in the subject areas of physics/nanosciences, information technology/robotics and biology/chemistry/life sciences. Educational guidance and instruction are provided by school teachers, other teachers, scientific staff from universities and experts from industry.
